Who she is

Mai Vang sits on the Sacramento City Council. Before that she served on the Sacramento City Unified school board. She is the eldest of sixteen children of Hmong refugees from Laos.

She co-founded Hmong Innovating Politics. On the school board she made ethnic studies a graduation requirement. On the council she led pandemic vaccination work and helped create Sacramento's Children's Fund.

She backs Medicare for All, public housing, a public bank, universal childcare and tuition-free college.
